Acknowledgement and recognition

Acknowledgement of Country

The Government of Western Australia acknowledges the traditional custodians throughout Western Australia and their continuing connection to the land, waters and community. We pay our respects to all members of the Aboriginal communities and their cultures; and to Elders both past and present.

Recognition of lived experience

Lived experience refers to the unique insights and perspectives gained through personal encounters with health conditions, treatments, or the healthcare system. It encompasses the first-hand knowledge and understanding individuals acquire by living with a specific health condition or being involved in the healthcare journey as a patient or caregiver.

The Department of Health recognises the individual and collective expertise of those with living and lived experience of the healthcare system. This also includes those who love and have loved and care for them. We value the vital contribution they make by sharing their unique experience to achieve better outcomes for all.
